What Have We Learned from the PDP - 1 I ?
نویسنده
چکیده
In the six years that the PDP-I I has been on the market, more than 20,000 units in 10 different models have been sold. Although one of the original system design goals was a broad range of models, the actual range of 500 to 1 (in cost and memory size) has exceeded the design goals. The PDP-I 1 was designed to be a small computer, yet its design has been successfully extended to high-performance models. This paper recollects the experience of designing the PDP-I I , commenting on its success from the point of view of its goals, its use of technology, and on the people who designed, built and marketed it.

Pathophysiology of Ischemia/Reperfusion-induced Myocardial Injury: What We Have Learned From Preconditioning and Postconditioning?
Organ damage after reperfusion of previously viable ischemic tissues is defined as ischemia/reperfusion injury. The pathophysiology of ischemia/reperfusion injury involves cellular effect of ischemia, reactive oxygen species and inflammatory cascade. Protection against ischemia/reperfusion injury may be achieved by preconditioning or postconditioning. In this review, we discuss basic mechan...

Gordon Bell, William Il. Strecker November 8, 1975 COMPUTER STRUCTURES: WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED FROM THE PDP-ll? Over the FDP-11’S six year life about 20,000 specimens have been built based on 10 species (models). Al though range was a design goal, it was unquantified; the actual range has exceeded expectations (5OO:l in memory size and system price]. The range has stressed the baa ic mini (mall c...

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” [1]. The famous quote from Hispanic American philosopher George Santayana reminds us of the critical importance of constantly reflecting on the most important lessons garnered from both our own personal experiences and those of our peers. In 49 years of academic orthopedic practice, I have frequently reflected on the most important...
متن کاملA Shiite innatist conception of reason, and what it can do for religious education (RE)
In this study I have argued for a theoretical foundation of a coherent and defensible religious education (RE). It has been said that for RE to be accepted as a reasonable subject matter it should be researchable. But for a subject to be researchable, or research based, it needs to be supported by reason, a kind of reason that have a public and universal character. On the other hand we need a c...

In this talk, I present what I believe we have learned from the recent RHIC heavy ion experiments. The goal of these experiments is to make and study matter at very high energy densities, greater than an order of magnitude larger than that of nuclear matter. Have we made such matter? What have we learned about the properties of this matter? What do we hope and expect to learn in the future?
